Located in Solihull, Alderbrook School have been working with Enabling Enterprise since 2018, and are keen to ensure children across the school have opportunities to work creatively and collaboratively whilst using their essential skills. Today's enterprising challenge was a great chance for everyone to be focusing on developing those skills as they applied them outside their usual learning environment.
Selfridges Birmingham is one of the city’s most distinctive landmarks and the in-store experience is equally show-stopping, with the hottest new designers and most-wanted brands.
The day started off with students interviewing volunteers to find out about their different roles, responsibilities and the Essential Skills required to do their jobs. They particularly focused on how the volunteers use both Creativity and Teamwork in their roles. Students then went on a tour of the retail space, which allowed the teams to see the great variety of jobs available in the retail industry. Next, the students needed to design a brand-new retail space. Having looked at some examples they put together the perfect floor plan, making sure to consult their volunteers on placement of key requirements such as tills and product displays. Finally, the teams presented their ideas back to a panel of volunteer judges by giving them a virtual tour of their new premises, showing off how well they could use both their Teamwork and Creativity Skills.
