Eversheds Sutherland Manchester
Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP is one of the largest global law firms in the world with more than 5,000 people, including 3,000 lawyers. It has 68 offices across 34 different jurisdictions which include Europe, the US, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. Eversheds Sutherland now hosts school visits in London, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester and Nottingham. These visits build on a core set of eight skills the students are learning back at school, and give students the opportunity to work on a fast-paced legal challenge supported by Eversheds Sutherlands volunteers.
Listen up Lawyers
From the moment they arrived, students were putting their essential skills into action. First of all by gathering as much information as they could about their hosts and the volunteers who were joining them for the day, and then further as they explored the workplace through a tour. Then, in teams, the students were set their Presenting challenge: to take on the role of lawyers and prepare a case for trial. They acted as either prosecution or defence, forming arguments to present in court. They analysed evidence, choosing the most compelling pieces to weave into their case. The day ended with a mock trial in front of a panel of volunteers. They reflected on how they had applied Presenting throughout the challenge and looked ahead to how they could apply this skill again in the future.

I thought I wanted to go into Law and today has confirmed that for me. Speaking to the professionals who work here has answered the questions I had and encouraged me to go ahead and pursue my hope to be a lawyer one day!
Year 12 Pupil
I never had opportunities like this when I was younger, it's a great way to experience the workplace and see what working in Law is really like.
Eversheds Sutherland Volunteer
I didn't know what to expect today and it has been fantastic. The chance to meet the volunteers, experience an activity in the workplace and think about their future has been a great thing for the students.
