Trading Triumphs at Greenwood Academy
Event date:
Greenwood Academy
Located in Birmingham, Greenwood Academy have been working with Enabling Enterprise since 2015, and are keen to ensure children across the school have opportunities to work creatively and collaboratively whilst using their essential skills. Today's enterprising challenge was a great chance for everyone to be focusing on developing those skills, particularly honing in on Teamwork and Staying Positive.
Trading Triumphs
Learners were challenged to become stock market traders for the day, taking calculated risks, dealing with setbacks and Staying Positive in the face of breaking news updates throughout the challenge. The aspiring traders had to work in teams to decide which companies would provide the best return for their client Dr Taylor. Each investment stretched their Problem Solving skills as they reviewed and updated their trading decisions to maximise their client's return. The challenge culminated with the learners reflecting on how effectively they used all eight of their essential skills throughout the day.
To make our team decisions, we first go round the table to hear everyone's opinion and then we try to agree... or compromise.

We lost quite a bit of money on one of the companies but we still made a profit after the second trade, so we're Staying Positive.
Year 8 Learner, Greenwood Academy
It was a nice surprise when I noticed some students who were completely into it, as they were motivated and happy to join in whereas in other lessons they would have not necessarily done so.
