Holly Park Primary School
From the London Borough of Barnet, Holly Park Primary School has been working with Enabling Enterprise since 2014 to develop a set of eight Essential Skills in their students. Over the years, students across the whole school have been developing their Essential Skills through Lesson-Time Projects as well as Challenge Days and Trips to Employers.
Travers Smith with Brewin Dolphin
Travers Smith LLP is a corporate law firm headquartered in London, United Kingdom. It advises national and multinational companies in the UK and internationally across the full range of corporate and commercial matters. Brewin Dolphin is one of the UK’s leading providers of personalised, discretionary wealth management services, offering investment management and financial planning services to investors and intermediaries. With origins dating back to the mid-18th century, they were one of the founding firms of the London Stock Exchange. They have 28 offices throughout the UK & Ireland and have a wealth of experience dealing with investment markets.
Tricky Trials
On arrival at their hosts, the students were introduced to volunteers who would be assisting them in their challenge on the day. They then found out more about the business by interviewing the volunteers to find out how they use the Essential Skills in their roles, particularly focusing on the use of Problem Solving and Presenting skills. Then, working in teams, the students started working on their different cases, either as the defence or prosecution. With the help of the volunteers, they identified the best arguments and analysed evidence as they prepared to go to trial. At the close of the day, they presented their evidence to a judge and jury made of volunteers who decided the winning team.
