Oliver Wyman
Event date:
Pelham Primary School
Based in Merton, South London, Pelham Primary have been working with Enabling Enterprise since 2014. Over this time, students have been busy developing their Essential Skills by working on Lesson-Time Projects as part of the school's Enterprise Week. All students also take part in exciting Challenge Days, where their Creativity, Problem Solving and Teamwork have been stretched with challenges such as designing a brand-new computer game, set in their school! Outside of the classroom, Year 5 students have the opportunity to put these skills into practice in the world of work through Employer Visits.
Oliver Wyman
Oliver Wyman is an international management consultancy company, helping businesses to solve their biggest challenges. Most recently, this has included the re-branding of Starbucks and McDonald's.
Marketing Consultants
The day started off with the students interviewing the volunteers to find out about their different roles, responsibilities and the Essential Skills required to do their jobs. In particular, students heard about how consultants use their Problem Solving and Staying Positive skills to help clients. In teams, the students also went on a brief tour of the premises, which allowed the teams to see the great variety of jobs available in the world of consultancy. Back in the room, learners took on the role of a consultancy firm, charged with turning around the fortunes of a failing chair company. Their task was to draw upon the experience of the employees around them to develop a new branding and marketing strategy for their client, undertaking market research to ensure their ideas would meet the needs of office workers. Teams worked against the clock to create a variety of persuasive posters with their colourful designs, including a wide range of tech features and very imaginative ways of keeping office workers productive. The day culminated in teams pitching their design and marketing ideas in a series of Trade Fair-style pitches. All students were Aiming High in order to persuade the adults that their chair was the one to buy!

This was a great team-working project. Students will take away experience of the design/marketing process, from conception to presentation, as well as experience of how offices work and the various roles within an organisation. Thank you for a great day!
Teacher, Pelham Primary
It's really great to be aware at this age what jobs are out there. It's also nice for us to spend time with these children, talking about the company. We often forget how good a workplace we have and sometimes we take this for granted.
Volunteer, Oliver Wyman
We have shared ideas well as a team because we made sure we took it in turns to say what we thought, so we made sure everyone was involved and had their say. Then we could choose, as a team, what was best.
