St Mark's Primary School
Aon Leadenhall Building
Event date:
St Mark's Primary School
From the London Borough of Merton, St Mark's Primary School is in its fourth year of working with Enabling Enterprise to develop a set of eight Essential Skills in their students. Over the years, students have been practising their essential skills through Lesson-Time Projects as well as Challenge Days.
Aon Leadenhall Building
Aon is a global professional services firm that advises clients on the topics of risk and people. The company is a provider of risk management, insurance and reinsurance brokerage, human resource solutions and outsourcing services. It employs 72,000 people in 500 offices in more than 120 countries and has its headquarters in London. Until 2014 Aon was the principal partner and global shirt sponsor of the Premier League team Manchester United F.C.
Pitch Perfect
The students started their day by meeting volunteers and learning about their hosts before touring the premises to get a better picture of what working there is like. Then they worked in teams to understand how banks can support businesses with their finances and started their challenge for the day. Their challenge was to secure a loan for a new business venture of their devising before running the initial set up of the business. The teams really had to demonstrate their Leadership and Presenting skills throughout the challenge, but especially at the end of the day when they presented their achievements back to a panel of volunteers.
Leadership & Presenting at AonLeadership & Presenting at Aon
Skills are very important to us. We used our Presenting and Creativity skills to come up with our business ideas and a logo. It is also important to stay positive in business as things may go wrong.
Student, Year 6
It's so interesting to observe the students throughout the day - they've been so focused on the task and supportive of one another. They've definitely enjoyed themselves and the volunteers have been great!
Teacher, St Mark's Primary
I think we might've enjoyed the day even more than the students! It's been an absolutely pleasure working with them today and I was so impressed with their ideas and teamwork - I wish I'd done something like this when I was their age!
