Discussion Cards

Lifting Limits deliver gender equality through education by providing schools with everything they need to challenge gender stereotypes: the limiting effects start early and can last a lifetime.  

The discussion cards are intended to prompt discussion amongst children.  They aim to highlight gender stereotyping and promote discussion of in/equality across a range of areas and these notes offer some prompts for discussion of the issues.  The aim is not to provide children with ‘answers’, but rather to encourage children to start thinking critically about why they feel the way they do and begin to question stereotypical beliefs.

The discussion of the issues raised can be tailored according to age and the unit provides discussion cards for EYFS, KS1 and KS2 students.

Lifting Limits' Discussion Cards provide learners with opportunities to discuss key topics and practise their essential skills whilst doing so.  A focus on Leadership and Teamwork is woven through the unit, supporting students in Early Years to identify when and how these two focus skills are being used during the discussions.  In KS1, students reflect on how they explain their feelings and recognise others' feelings, as well as working with others in a positive way.  The KS2 cards support managing disagreements and working well with others by understanding and respecting diversity of others' cultures, beliefs and backgrounds.

Teachers can use reflection questions to support reflection around these skill steps.
