Primary Insight Day

PwC’s Primary Insight Day is an expansion of their schools outreach work and forms part of their New World New Skills community programme. The Insight Day aims to support school students from lower socio-economic backgrounds to develop skills for the future. Designed to inspire primary-aged children aged 9-11 about the world of work, students spend the day in a PwC office learning about the organisation, meeting some of their employees, taking part in activities to learn more about the type of work they do and developing their essential skills (including Listening, Problem Solving and Teamwork) for the future.

The Primary Insight Day has been mapped to the Skills Builder Framework, in line with PwC's other schools outreach programme. PwC have identified three focus skill steps for the session within Listening, Problem Solving and Teamwork.

The Skills Builder names, definitions and icons are used throughout the content. It includes prompts and reflections to encourage students to consider their progress against the skill. There is opportunity to reflect on progress against each skill step after the programme, although due to the students’ age, this information is typically collected in via the teacher.

A key activity within the Insight Day is the opportunity to meet with PwC staff. All volunteers who facilitate these sessions are equipped to talk about the Framework and encouraged to discuss their role in terms of the essential skills, demonstrating the link between essential skills and employment.
