BTEC Level 1 Construction Qualification

SATRO is an educational charity which has been working across the South East since 1984.

The charity's aim is to inspire and develop the aspirations of young people, supporting them to nurture their passions and explore pathways to a successful career, which will benefit our regional economy, wider society and all our futures.  

Thanks to the funded support of Higgins, SATRO were able to utilise support from the Skills Builder team to:

• Align Content with the Framework, selecting which skills and steps were appropriate for the students to focus on.  Content from the Universal Framework was then incorporated into the existing BTEC Level 1 qualification student workbooks. These two workbooks now provide opportunities for the students to reflect on and apply their essential skills during written tasks.
• Train the team of tutors who deliver the BTEC qualification work with students on a weekly basis. Tutors were introduced to the Universal Framework and reflect on opportunities for essential skill development in a range of activities and contexts. They were given further guidance on how to support their students to complete the workbooks and to identify opportunities during their sessions where the essential skills are applied.
• Measure the impact and track progress of essential skill development using the Skills Builder Benchmark self-assessment tool. This enables students to reflect on their essential skills, identify areas of strength, areas for development and provides SATRO with the data to track progress over time.

As a result of this work, students taking this BTEC Level 1 qualification will have the opportunity to reflect, practise and make progress in their essential skills during their course of study.
