Context
Kamenka Čelákovice Elementary School is a "School of Mutual Understanding" covering both primary and lower secondary education, with a total of 47 teachers and 23 teaching assistants. The headmaster of the school is Ing. Jiří Kyliánek, LL.M. Methodological associations actively operate at the school, through which teachers collaborate on introducing new approaches. All staff members share the newly created SCHOOL VISION, which was developed in cooperation with both parents and the school board.
Overall impact
The methodology was introduced at our school in September 2025. Five out of the 47 teachers actively joined the program, along with three student teachers from the "Učitel naživo" program. Thanks to the involvement of these teachers across both primary and lower secondary levels, we are successfully monitoring and appreciating students' efforts and achievements in developing soft skills.
Principle 1: Align
We shared information about Skills Builder at a meeting of the primary school methodological association, where 4 additional colleagues expressed interest in joining. At the lower secondary level, 3 teachers currently use the methodology. Visual aids and methodology logos can already be seen in primary school classrooms, as well as in lower secondary classrooms (6.D and 7.A) and in the school reception area.
Principle 2: Plan
We regularly focus on skill development across many year groups throughout the school. For example, in 1.A, 1.B, 4.D, 5.A, 5.B, and 5.C, as well as with older students in 6.A, 6.D, 7.A, and 8.A. We primarily practice listening and teamwork, and in the second term, we focused on presentation skills in selected classes (6.A, 6.D, 8.A).
Principle 3: Measure
All 5 of our involved teachers regularly use formative assessment to effectively track students' progress in developing soft skills.
Principle 4: Teach
Our participating teachers integrate explicit and targeted soft skills development directly into lessons. The fact that we dedicate time to this development is clearly evident in the school documentation – we intentionally record the abbreviation "SB" or, for example, "communication skills development" in the class register (Edupage).
Principle 5: Practise
Five of our teachers regularly provide students with opportunities to practice soft skills across various school subjects and our school curriculum.
Principle 6: Apply
The school actively creates opportunities for students to apply skills outside regular lessons. We connect skills to real life primarily through various field trips and workshops taking place outside the school premises.
What's next
The main plan is to further expand the methodology (essential skills) among the rest of the 47 teachers. In the upcoming term, we want to extend visual support to more classrooms and work specifically on presentation skills with older year groups.
