The successful Get Wired…Get Coding workshop was created by the Women in Operational Technology Group (now Women in Science Engineering & Technology) at Sellafield Ltd to introduce pupils to circuits, programming and computer safety. By the end of this activity the learners will:

  • Understand simple circuits utilising Hot Wires activity
  • Understand a computers inputs and outputs
  • Understand the aspects of a control system
  • Utilise Lego Education Spike to code simple instructions

Skill development is supported as follows:

  • Skills Builder names, logos and definitions are used consistently
  • Questions are asked to prompt learners to reflect on how they used the essential skills
  • Feedback questionnaires are sent to teachers/learners to quantify what essential skills they've developed
  • Informing the learners about how the skills are applied in all careers at Sellafield Ltd and answering any questions
  • Links to computing and science curriculum areas and reinforcing that these technical and essential skills will be practised.
