SSE is the leading generator of renewable electricity and one of the largest electricity network companies in the UK. STEM-based education for pupils at the primary phase is incredibly important and SSE understands that decisions around STEM careers are often made consciously or subconsciously at a very early age. For this reason, SSE have developed a suite of online lessons in order to inspire the ‘Power Changers’ who SSE believe will be required to achieve net-zero and provide long-term sustainable, secure energy supply.  The suite of Primary lessons will teach children much more than science, technology, engineering and mathematical concepts; they also focus on hands-on learning and real-world application, building the essential skills in order for them to effectively apply these concepts. In these curriculum aligned lessons, it shows how SSE are playing their part and encourage debate around the future skills required and learnings from the past. Each topic has a lesson plan, slide deck and activities for the teachers to deliver throughout the primary years. SSE hope these vibrant lessons help pupils understand their role and the exciting possibilities available to them in their future. As an inclusive employer, SSE understands the benefits of inspiring everyone to consider the energy sector and the wide range of green skills required.

Within each lesson an essential skill and relevant skill point has been embedded within the resources. This is filtered through all materials and introduces and highlights the importance of the essential skill whilst using the correct terminology and skills builder icons. Giving participants the time to reflect and progress the essential skill are key points within each lesson and guidance can be found within the presenters lesson plan and embedded within the lesson slide decks. For the application of the essential skill, in-lesson activity accompanied by worksheets gives participants the opportunity to achieve progress in the skill step, whilst giving the opportunity to reflect to track the progress that has been made.
