Using Skills Builder to support a National Professional Qualification

National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) are voluntary qualifications designed to support teachers and leaders’ professional development.

Likewise, essential skills support personal and professional development – and, furthermore, research from the Centre for Education and Youth and Skills Builder showed that “essential skills interventions tend to be more effective when regular, long term, explicit, embedded, structured, supported and targeted.”

In this education webinar on March 24 2022, Skills Leaders from a range of schools therefore shared how they used a combination of Skills Builder approaches and their NPQ to make sure that essential skills teaching was effective in their setting.

Charlotte Fryett, Senior Education Associate at Skills Builder Partnership, was joined by:

  • Sophie Deaville, Education Associate at Skills Builder Partnership
  • Gemma McCutcheon, Quality Lead and Skills Leader at Buzz Learning Independent Specialist School and College
  • Matt Thomson, Assistant Headteacher and Skills Leader at Isebrook School

Watch the recording above to find out how the NPQ and Skills Builder can be used together and gain some ideas to try.
