The Speaking Skills Program supports children in rural Nigerian communities to build confidence and communicate effectively in everyday situations. Delivered over four structured sessions, it teaches learners how to speak clearly, engage in group discussions, interact with new people, and organise their thoughts logically. The program uses interactive methods such as songs, group dialogue, role-play, and visual prompts, ensuring inclusivity and engagement regardless of literacy level. Activities are designed to reflect the learners’ environment and experiences. The provision is led by trained facilitators and incorporates reflection tools to assess learner progress and promote continuous improvement.
The program supports essential skill development by embedding Skill Steps directly into session plans and learning objectives. Each session focuses on one core speaking skill, with learners practising through real-life scenarios. Reflection is built in using worksheets to monitor individual progress. Icons and language from the Skills Builder framework are consistently referenced, and learners self-assess using simplified tools. Facilitators also provide feedback, ensuring alignment with the Skills Builder Impact Level criteria.
