A six-month long competition to encourage saving electricity in schools, reduce carbon emissions and save the school money. This is an excellent opportunity to put pupils as part of an ECO Group at the heart of the school's Sustainability and see how they can save electricity and reduce carbon emissions.

SATRO offer the chance for 12 primary schools to take part in this fully funded six-month long challenge to monitor and reduce their school's electricity consumption. Starting with a Sustainability workshop, the organisation will continue to support them as part of the school's ECO group in influencing how the school, staff, students and the wider community can be more energy-conscious and make real savings with their energy bills. At school the savings can then be re-invested in equipment to further enhance their sustainability.

The workshop Powerpoints will highlight the Skills Builder icons, questions and reminders linked to the 8 essential skills. The pupils' levels can be judged by multiple-choice questions either on paper or using an online voting system.

A SATRO tutor will visit the Eco-group several times throughout the competition so there is an opportunity to see progress and focus on specific skills.

Some of the Awards are:

  • Innovation, which reflects Creativity
  • School Communication, which reflects Listening & Speaking.

Teamwork is also important as each Eco Group has to work well to achieve their aims.
