The Sutton Trust champions social mobility through programmes, research and policy influence. Sutton Trust Online (STO), developed with Bloomberg LP, supports students aged 16 and up from disadvantaged backgrounds to access information and advice around post-18 options so they can make informed decisions, develop essential skills, and increase their chances of success. Students are guided through a tailored programme to help them:

  • Explore post-18 options (university, apprenticeships and careers)
  • Make effective applications and personal statements
  • Prepare for exams and university
  • Succeed whilst at university

STO includes academic content, advice and guidance on applications, student finance, living independently, mental health and wellbeing, careers information, and more.

As well as a variety of static and interactive resources and a speed-mentoring platform to connect to Sutton Trust alumni, essential skills development is incorporated through a reflective logbook and live webinars. The logbook and webinars guide students to set SMART goals relating to essential skills, test their skill levels and practise the skills in a variety of ways, as well as to discuss and reflect on their progress with the support of others.
