Skills Builder Partnership works with cross-sector employers and non-profits to embed essential skills into a variety of contexts.

By joining the Employer Programme, employers are provided with the tools, training, resources and deep expertise to support skills development across their outreach, recruitment, and staff learning and development. This can help address challenges around building a talent pipeline, creating a diverse and inclusive organisation, and improving retention through long-term investment in their staff.

The Skills Builder Universal Framework provides a complete approach for building essential skills across a business, and dozens of employers have already successfully introduced the Framework to resolve fundamental organisational needs.

At Partnership Day 2022, we featured spotlight sessions for these employers to show first-hand the impact of introducing Skills Builder approaches.

Our work with AKW

AKW is the UK market leader in showering, daily living and kitchen solutions for people with mobility needs. As a medium-sized business of 250 people across multiple subsidiaries, they were struggling to recruit in their customer services, warehouse operations and sales teams, and wanted to have a consistent and inclusive approach to recruitment across the group.

Charlotte Treverton-Jones at AKW explained how working with Skills Builder brought structure, fairness, and transparency to their recruitment. Candidates now understand what skills and competencies they need to join AKW, and are guided on how to demonstrate these. This has boosted their diversity and inclusion, and helped fill roles that were previously hard to fill.

Thanks to the effectiveness of this work, AKW has also recently attained a Skills Builder Bronze Excellence Mark in recognition of best practice in embedding essential skills in recruitment.
